Grace in Imperfection
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9
Have you ever had someone say there’s grace here or I’m giving you a grace period? In our culture, we get constantly bombarded with messages telling us we must meet a certain standard to have acceptance in our relationships, health, work, parenting, or adulthood. But we often fall short and miss the mark, and then our shortcomings are exposed. In our weakness, God extends Himself to us, and in 2 Corinthians 12:9, He says “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Paul knew something about the need for grace. In Greek, this word is ‘Charis’, which refers to God’s power to help us endure hardship, be strengthened when encountering a physical, mental, or spiritual challenge, or experience His forgiveness. God’s grace is available to us in our weakest moments. We don’t have to do this journey alone. God opens His arms for us to substitute our tendency to rely on our strength with His grace, which is all we need.
Let Us Pray: God, I thank you for the word that you have spoken to me today. When I want to rely on myself, my wisdom and strength, help me to remember and rely on the truth, that your grace is sufficient for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
