Fruit Filled Branches

Fruit-filled Branches
April 12 - 18
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” (John 15:1-2)
Devotional: The imagery of the vine and the branch in this passage not only symbolizes the intimate relationship Jesus has with the Father but it also reflects the Father being actively involved in our lives as believers. The Lord is the keeper of our spiritual gardens! He makes it possible for us, as branches, to be fruitful by engrafting us onto the vine. The verse says… Jesus is the “true vine” and we are His branches. Being connected to Jesus [the branch] provides the spiritual nourishment [the sap] vines need to sustain. Jesus wants us to bear much fruit. He wants us to share the testimony of the gospel with those who do not know Him. Any branch who does not bear fruit; the Father cuts away from the vine but the one who does bear fruit, He prunes. Pruning is a process of removing parts of the plant that carry disease, is dead, or is unproductive. If there are areas in your life where you are not producing fruit for the kingdom, allow the Father to prune you so that you may bear much fruit. The kind of fruit that brings others into relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the caretaker of our lives. In areas where we have failed to produce kingdom fruit, cut them away. In areas where we are bearing fruit, prune us so that we may become more fruit-filled branches. All glory to God... in Jesus Name. Amen!
Reflection Question: What areas in your life do you need God to cut away or to prune so that you can bear much fruit?
