Joy For My Journey

Joy For My Journey

December 17-23

Scripture: “The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, 2 it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.” –Isaiah 35:1-2

Devotional: I have learned that life can be like taking a road trip in a car as you travel through the countryside on a two-lane highway. There are parts of the highway that you find yourself going up on a hillside, and then you find yourself coming down. As you continue your drive, suddenly, you come upon a sharp curve in which you have to slow down, drive with caution, and be mindful of the other cars traveling in the opposite lane because the goal is to arrive safely at your destination. For me, Joy is that expressive gift given to us during this Advent season as we recognize that we do not travel alone through this barren land called life. We have someone, in the person of Jesus Christ, who is not only with us but has rescued us, and by His amazing grace and mercy, I am assured of arriving safely at my destination!

Prayer: God of Heaven, we worship You for being our guide as we travel through this seemingly dark and dreary land. Lord, it appears that there is so much chaos and craziness in the world and yet we are reminded that Jesus came into this world to be the light and salt, to give us life and to give it to us more abundantly. Father, help us to truly grasp what You have provided for us and let us know that Joy comes only in knowing and living in the brightness of Jesus Christ, who is the Light of the world; we pray this prayer in His name, Amen and Amen!!

Reflection Question: What does Joy mean to you?

When God allows me to behold another day witnessing his beautiful creation, that is joy for me. I get a chance to stand at my back door window and thank Him for another day. That is joy!

Joy means to me, being able to wake up each morning to acknowledge all blessings from God. And the Joy of knowing even in my sorrow and downfalls He is right by my side to comfort me.
I Thank Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior for Great Joy, Peace, and Hope
