Thankfulness Can Lead to Peacefulness
Thankfulness can Lead to Peacefulness
November 24-30
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6
Devotional: As we prepare this week for the Thanksgiving holiday and all that comes with being grateful and appreciative, many people in our community have a hard time finding anything to be thankful for, especially in view of what transpired during our national and local elections. Instead of being overwhelmed by expectant guests and the preparation of food, many are upset, afraid, and worried about the effects of the new governing body, which will occupy offices nationally and locally. Paul, who is in prison in Rome while writing this letter to the church at Philippi, wants to remind us to be thankful in all things and not to worry or be anxious because our God is very near to us and our circumstances. In fact, he tells us to “rejoice in the Lord always” because our God has given us His peace, which provides for our security as children of the Most-High God, and nothing and no one can ever separate us from His presence. Thereby, we lift our heads up this Thanksgiving season and give thanks with a grateful heart because of what the Lord has done for us!
Prayer: You, Oh God, are worthy of our thanksgiving; You are so worthy of our praise; thank you for giving us the Holy One in your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord! Now, Heavenly Father, fill our hearts with gratitude and remind us that we don’t have to be anxious about or for anything because You have given us an identity as your children, for we are joint heirs with our Savior, and we glorify You for being our provider, our protector, our sustainer! We love you, and we adore you in Jesus’ name, Amen!
Reflection Question: What are you discovering about yourself in being anxious during this season of Thanksgiving?
