Wesley Community Center’s mission is to invest in the potential of individuals to strengthen families and build neighborhoods. Wesley helps lift people out of poverty through our programs that help Houstonians at every stage of life. We provide people with tools to reach their goals. For over 119 years, Wesley has been helping the Houston community giving clients the support to not just survive but thrive.

What We Do

Wesley Community Center helps the community through career training and financial education, basic needs assistance, and quality early childhood education. Our programs include workforce development, adult education (ESL and GED), rent and utility assistance, a busy food pantry, a senior citizens program, and early head start, pre-K, and after school program.

Available Serving Opportunities

Pantry Volunteers

The need at Wesley’s Food Pantry has dramatically increased since the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers are needed to help with our drive up food pantry to help our Houston neighbors who are in desperate need of food. We will limit the number of volunteers to keep in line with social distancing recommendations and volunteers must wear face masks.

Please see available shifts, updated in needs each month.

Duties include:

  • Organize, sort and stock donated food items, including loading and unloading freezers, refrigerators, and shelves.
  • Fill grocery bags with food to take out to client cars.
  • Maintain strict cleanliness and safety standards of the pantry.

Skills Needed: 

    • Great customer service, communication skills, and a personable demeanor.
    • The ability to uphold our standards of client confidentiality.
    • The ability to stand, walk, bend and lift up to 30 pounds.

Shifts: W/F – 9am -1pm | T/TH – 10am – 2pm

Location: 1235 Lorraine Street; Houston, TX 77009

    • Q: Is your agency prepared to abide by guidelines set forth by the CDC on how to prevent getting sick?
    • A: Yes – temperature and screening questions upon arrival, social distancing, and volunteers and clients are required to wear masks.
    • Volunteers should be between the ages of 14-65; is not outdoors
    • Is Not Wheelchair Accessible
    • Wear closed-toed shoes
    • Masks required
