The mission of Target Hunger is to alleviate hunger and its root causes in the Houston neighborhoods we serve. Our vision is a Houston where no one goes hungry, and everyone can provide food for themselves and their families.
Target Hunger is on the front lines of hunger every day through its food distribution system that includes multiple food pantries, educational food fairs, an extensive home delivery program, summer break food programs for children, mobile distribution sites, a growing community partner program, emergency food assistance, and two gardens.
Target Hunger is one of Houston’s largest non-profit organizations providing direct food assistance to food insecure children, families, and seniors who face the risk of going hungry every day. In 2021, Target Hunger distributed food to nearly 17,000 unduplicated individuals. From March 2020 through June 2021, our operations shifted to ensure the safety of clients, staff, and volunteers during the peak of the pandemic. We served more than 107,000 individuals during this timeframe.
We are proud to be a partner of the United Way of Greater Houston and the Houston Food Bank.
Our Food Fairs are open to anyone in Houston and provide participants with fresh produce and access to community educators. Your help is needed for client intake, repackaging produce, and assisting with loading food into client’s car trunks.
Before our clients can receive food, it must be sorted and packaged. Our main warehouse is where this all happens. Volunteers will help with the logistics of packing food to be distributed across our service area.
Do you enjoy working outdoors? Do you want to share your passion for gardening with others? We welcome both novice and experienced gardeners to volunteer at our Garden. Volunteers work together to grow thousands of pounds of nutritious produce that is distributed through Target Hunger programs.

Volunteering at the garden provides a fun, educational, and some would say a relaxing experience! Join us for special volunteering opportunities on the 2nd Saturday of each month this fall!
